John and Martha King Oppose Air Traffic Control Privatization

With Congress back in session, the general aviation community must continue to express its opposition to H.R. 2997 and its air traffic control (ATC) privatization plan. Under a privatized ATC system, Congress will not be able to protect general aviation (GA) access, and these are a few ways access could be reduced: The private corporation…  [ Read More ]

It Takes an Aviation Village

Why Aviation Community Matters Article appeared in Flying Magazine July, 2017 by Martha King – It was scary.  We were more than a mile from the short runway and we were skimming the treetops in the Chinese-made Socata Trinidad look-alike.  We were so low we couldn’t even see the runway.  It took me a little…  [ Read More ]

King Schools

http://www.kingschools.com/?sco=WB&scu=FACEBK01 Born from a Passion for Flying King Schools, Inc. is the world´s leading producer of aviation training videos and computer software. It was first established in 1974, when John and Martha began flying throughout the country to teach ground school courses. A decade later, they began producing video courses in a spare room of their house. Today, King Schools has over 70 employees operating from an 18,000 sq. ft. complex, housing a dedicated video production and duplication facility. In the past 10 years we have delivered more than 2-1/2 million videos with over 4 million hours of video instruction, teaching up to one-half of the instrument students and over one-third of all pilots in the U.S. obtaining training. We are keenly aware of the importance of the work we do. During the time someone is learning to fly, flying is the most important thing in his or her life. We are privileged to play such a significant role in the lives of such committed individuals. We take pride in producing quality work for these special people.

You might like to know that King Schools is opposed to air traffic control (ATC) privatization and H.R. 2997.

If H.R. 2997 becomes law, an airline-dominated board will control our access to airports and airspace, and where ATC system investments are made. This legislation represents the single-greatest threat general aviation has ever faced.

Even if you have contacted Congress before, there are still undecided members of Congress who need to continue hearing from our community. Please take action now!

"Special Security Instructions" for Drone Operators have been issued at the request of U.S. national security and law enforcement agencies, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is using its existing authority under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) § 99.7 –

The FAA and DOI have agreed to restrict drone flights up to 400 feet within the lateral boundaries of these sites:

• Statue of Liberty National Monument, New York, NY
• Boston National Historical Park (U.S.S. Constitution), Boston, MA
• Independence National Historical Park, Philadelphia, PA
• Folsom Dam; Folsom, CA
• Glen Canyon Dam; Lake Powell, AZ
• Grand Coulee Dam; Grand Coulee, WA
• Hoover Dam; Boulder City, NV
• Jefferson National Expansion Memorial; St. Louis, MO
• Mount Rushmore National Memorial; Keystone, SD
• Shasta Dam; Shasta Lake, CA

The restrictions will be effective October 5, 2017. There are only a few exceptions that permit drone flights within these restrictions, and they must be coordinated with the individual facility and/or the FAA.

To ensure the public is aware of these restricted locations, the FAA has created an interactive map online. The link to these restrictions is also included in the FAA’s B4UFLY mobile app. The app will be updated within 60 days to reflect these airspace restrictions.

Additional information, including frequently asked questions, is available on the FAA’s UAS website.

Operators who violate the airspace restrictions may be subject to enforcement action, including potential civil penalties and criminal charges.

This is the first time the agency has placed airspace restrictions for unmanned aircraft, or “drones,” over DOI landmarks. The FAA has placed similar airspace restrictions over military bases that currently remain in place.

The FAA is considering additional requests from other federal agencies for restrictions using the FAA’s § 99.7 authority as they are received.
